A private poop log for iPhone, inspired by kanben
Press kit · Updated October 3, 2026
You look. Porcelain notices.
In Japan there's a word for taking a quick look at your poop before you flush: kanben (観便). Yoshitaka Nakao, an independent developer in Japan, turned that small habit into Porcelain, a calm iPhone app for people in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Australia and New Zealand. There's no account, no ads and no data collection, the price is shown up front, and your logs stay on your iPhone.
Facts
- Log a poop in one tap with the 7 Bristol shapes. After 7 logged days, see your normal: how often you usually go, the shape you see most and your usual gap.
- Porcelain notices: when your own logs change for several days — pale or looser poops in a row, fewer poops than usual in a week, a longer gap than your usual — a card on Today says so, with your own numbers. Free, never a push notification, and not a diagnosis.
- Habits beside your logs: water, fiber, exercise, sleep, coffee, alcohol, stress, and up to 12 of your own. “Tummy today” records bloating, gas or cramping on any day. Sleep, steps, periods, water and fiber can be read from Apple Health (read only).
- Photos are optional. Photos taken in Porcelain stay inside the app and aren’t automatically added to your Photos library or iCloud Photos. They are blurred until you choose to look.
- Free: logging, history and calendar, notices about changes in your pattern, backups (with photos), CSV export, Face ID lock, trends for the last 30 days, a PDF summary for a doctor, and logs for one family member.
- Porcelain Plus (optional): Your week (last week beside your usual), Habits side by side (the day after a habit beside your other days), your poops beside your cycle from Apple Health, compare before and after a change, trends for any period, “Your year”, more family members, two 28-day programs (Notice your pattern, and One change at a time, with tips from the NIDDK and the CDC), and app icons. $29.99 a year with a 1-month free trial for eligible subscribers, $4.99 a month, or $49.99 once. At the end of setup, the trial offer sits next to an equally sized “Continue with free logging” button.
- No ads, no account to create, no upsells in the middle of logging, and the doctor report is free.
- iPhone, iOS 26 or later. Planned for late October 2026 in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Australia, and New Zealand.
- App Privacy label: Data Not Collected. No third-party SDKs.
No scores and no streaks: Porcelain never labels poop as good or bad. It's for personal record-keeping and isn't intended to diagnose or treat any condition.
Why kanben
Kanben is a few seconds of attention, not a test. When you know what's usual for you, a change is easier to notice and easier to describe, for example “mostly type 4, once a day.” Porcelain keeps that record quietly and lets you decide what to do with it.
